Privacy Policy

1. Data Controller

Trendin Chat ("we", "us", "our") operates the trendin.chat platform and is the data controller for your personal data. For privacy inquiries, contact us at privacy@trendin.chat.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account data: Email address, username, display name, avatar image.
  • Profile data: Bio, country selection, Twitter/X connection (handle, avatar).
  • Content data: Messages in chat rooms, direct messages, reactions, reports you file.
  • Usage data: Rooms joined, message counts, features used, session duration.
  • Device data: Device type, operating system, app version, push notification tokens.
  • Payment data: Subscription status (processed by RevenueCat; we do not store payment card details).

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Article 6 / KVKK Article 5)

  • Consent: Analytics, AI features (Grok), push notifications.
  • Contract performance: Account creation, messaging, premium subscription.
  • Legitimate interest: Security, fraud prevention, content moderation, service improvement.
  • Legal obligation: Compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide and operate the chat platform and messaging features.
  • Personalize your experience (trending topics, room recommendations).
  • Send push notifications for mentions, replies, and new activity.
  • Process AI-powered features (Grok chat assistant, image generation).
  • Moderate content and enforce community guidelines.
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the platform.
  • Process premium subscriptions and manage billing.

5. AI Data Processing

When you use the Grok AI assistant (@grok in chat rooms), your message and recent conversation context are sent to xAI (the provider of Grok) for processing. xAI may process this data on servers located in the United States. AI-generated responses are not guaranteed to be accurate. AI-generated images are stored temporarily and deleted after 7 days. You can avoid AI processing by not using @grok commands.

6. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party service providers:

  • Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) — hosts all user data.
  • xAI / Grok (AI assistant) — receives messages when @grok is used.
  • Sentry (error monitoring) — receives crash reports, device info, stack traces.
  • PostHog (analytics) — receives anonymized usage events and session data.
  • RevenueCat (subscriptions) — receives user ID and subscription status.
  • Giphy (GIF search) — receives search queries (no user identification).
  • Expo (push notifications) — receives push tokens and notification content.

We do not sell your personal data. Data shared with third parties is limited to what is necessary for their service and governed by their respective privacy policies.

7. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where our service providers (xAI, Sentry, PostHog, Supabase) operate. These transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent safeguards as required by GDPR and KVKK.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and language preferences. Analytics cookies (PostHog) and error tracking (Sentry) are activated only after you provide consent via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time through your browser settings or by contacting us.

9. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active.
  • Chat messages: Retained for the lifetime of the room; older messages may be archived.
  • Direct messages: Retained until you delete the conversation or your account.
  • AI-generated images: Automatically deleted after 7 days.
  • Notifications: Automatically purged after 30 days.
  • Analytics data: Retained for up to 12 months, then anonymized.

10. Your Rights

Under GDPR and KVKK, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data (Settings → Export Data).
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate data (Edit Profile).
  • Erasure: Delete your account and all associated data (Settings → Delete Account).
  • Data portability: Export your data in machine-readable JSON format.
  • Restriction: Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
  • Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time without affecting lawfulness of prior processing.
  • Lodge a complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection authority.

11. Children's Privacy

Trendin Chat is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
